This past Friday June 20th was the Celebration of Service for Hien Doan. Family, friends, current employees, and former employees gathered to honor Hien and her twenty-five years of service at the Bishop Payne Library. Her daughter Trang Nguyen spoke during the program and told the story of how her mother, Hien, fled Vietnam after the fall of Saigon with her five children and husband. They arrived in Northern Virginia and shortly afterward, secured a job at the Bishop Payne Library. During her time as custodian in the library, Hien took great care and pride in the plants and flowers around the building. In honor of that, she was compared to an orchid and rose – the orchid representing beauty and the rose representing love.
We wish Hien well as she now finds time to spend with family and friends and we thank her for her faithful service to the Bishop Payne Library.
